Getting to Burgos

Burgos is well connected to Spain and to the rest of Europe via the airports of Madrid-Barajas and Bilbao, and by a fast railway and motorway network.

By plane

The two closest international airports to Burgos are Madrid-Barajas (MAD) and Bilbao (BIO). Both offer convenient onward connections to Burgos by train or coach.

Madrid-Barajas (MAD)

Madrid-Barajas is Spain’s largest airport and the natural option for delegates flying from outside Europe.

  • To Madrid city / Chamartín station: Metro line 8 (~30 min) or Cercanías C-1 (~25 min).
  • Madrid → Burgos: Avant / high-speed train from Madrid-Chamartín in ~1h 50m. Frequent daily services.
  • By coach: ALSA direct buses from Madrid airport / Avenida de América to Burgos (~3 hours).

Bilbao (BIO)

Bilbao airport offers many direct flights from across Europe and is often the most convenient option for delegates from Northern and Western Europe.

  • To Bilbao city / Termibus: Bizkaibus A3247 from the airport (~25 min).
  • Bilbao → Burgos: ALSA direct coach from Bilbao Termibus to Burgos in ~2h 15m, with several daily departures.
  • By train: Slower than coach; coach is recommended.

By train

Burgos is served by the modern Rosa Manzano station, with frequent AVE and Alvia high-speed services connecting Madrid, Valladolid, the Basque Country and the French border.

Tickets can be booked through renfe.com, iryo.eu or ouigo.com.

By coach

ALSA (alsa.com) operates frequent long-distance coach services to Burgos from Madrid, Bilbao, Valladolid, San Sebastián and most major cities in northern Spain.

By car

Burgos is on the AP-1 / A-1 motorway, about 2h 30m from Madrid and 2h from Bilbao. Public car parks are available near the Fórum Evolución and the city centre.

Local transport to the venues

Burgos is a compact, walkable city. The Fórum Evolución and the Campus San Amaro can be reached on foot from most central hotels in 10–20 minutes. The city’s public bike-sharing scheme, Bicibur, is also a popular option in summer.

Once the official conference hotels and university residences are confirmed, we will publish detailed walking and public-transport routes from each of them to both venues.
